PF Flyers: Run Faster, Jump Higher

Until recently I was unaware that PF Flyers had so much heritage! Founded by BF Goodrich in 1937 the brand was actually purchased by Converse in 1972. New Balance eventually bought rights to the brand in 2001 after Converse sold it due to antitrust issues. In the 1930′s and early 1940′s PF (or “Posture Foundation”) Flyers was making sneakers, as well as oxfords, boots and heels. Sport styles by PF were very popular in the 1950s, renowned for helping you “run faster and jump higher.” PF Flyers also had the first collaboration between a sneaker company and pro athlete in the 1950′s, when they teamed up with Bob Cousy, the famed Boston Celtics star to create a line of classic basketball shoes. Earlier this year PF re-released the SportShu, a 1940′s reproduction resurrected by PF’s Japanese designer team. After looking at these ads from decades past I can’t wait to see what other styles PF will bring back to life. Check out the PF Flyers archives for more!
