The Aesthete | Lawrence Schlossman

February 23rd, 2010  |  Published in the aesthete

Lawrence is the author of Sartorially Inclined, and curator of The Bean Boot Project and How To Talk To Girls At Parties.  He is also, without a doubt in my mind, one of today’s most passionate bloggers, menswear or otherwise.  When it comes to blogging and the business of menswear, Lawrence has inspired me to pursue my own dreams further.  It’s always a pleasure to operate in a space with such inspirational and motivated people.  Be sure to keep an eye on him this year – he’s making moves (Seriously.  Like, too many to write about here so stay tuned!).

“I’d have to say that I have a ‘uniform’ that I pretty much wear everyday; a uniform I prefer to keep classic and, most of all, simple.  As much as I champion things like layering on my blog I can’t say that I take it to that level on a regular basis.  The following kit is what you can pretty much catch me wearing day in and day out.  Up top I like to stick to collared shirts and the reverse seam numbers from Steven Alan are my current favorite.  While some people see Mr. Alan’s reverse seam style as a little unnecessary, I personally love the details.  It’s one of those thing that no one but the wearer is likely to notice and I find that kind of empowering.  As much as I love chinos, denim holds the #1 spot in my heart.  I was lucky enough to get my hands on a pair of Tellason denim from their initial run of 240 (hey Tony, number 11 is doing just fine).  When it comes to shoes I am a Clarks Original enthusiast.  I’ve had a fine collection of Desert Boots, Desert Treks and Wallabees over the years and am currently on a new pair of sand suede low top Wally’s.  Super stylish, super comfy and just generally a great daily knockabout.  Living in the South has afforded me to go pretty easy on the outerwear and I usually rock my peacoat, which happens to be a Club Monaco joint from way back when.  If I was going to grab a new one today it would definitely be the Schott original which now comes in a fitted version.  With all the money I should be saving on coats I go right ahead and blow on sunglasses.  My collection of shades is pretty respectable and I have all the requisite Persol’s and Ray Ban’s.  I am presently enamored with a pair of vintage tortoise shell Ray Ban Clubmasters I scored on eBay.  Oh yeah, don’t forget to put on boot socks before you walk out the door to complete the Sart Inc signature F/W look (you don’t even want to get me started on watches/straps).”
